Re: Avoiding state income taxes

Yes indeed, I am a now retired partner at one of the Big 4 accounting firms. While active in the firm I paid state income taxes in every state we had an office.....some 34...and at least 4 cities as well. The firm had reached an agreement with the vast majority of those states and cities and filed a...

Re: Tax Code Is Gibberish So I Don't Owe

This is my one and only response to the troll du jour. You go right ahead and take that position on your taxes. Fine with me. Just so long as you are aware that if contested you will lose. If you want to spend large portions of your life fighting and losing to prove a useless point that will lose 10...

Re: Let's Get Rid Of Tax Court

There is another very important aspect of Tax Court. It is the only way to judicially question the IRS assessment without paying up first. If not for Tax Court, the only way to get a judicial adjudication of an IRS assessment would be to pay up first, every cent they claimed, and then sue for a refu...

Re: The Alabama "Baby Holm" Case

For the absolutely nothing it is worth, I agree that the story is of some interest....but I do not think it is of enough interest to require a post every time anyone burps. A short summary of actual important developments (if any) every week or so would be easily sufficient... not obsessive coverage...

The key point is they don't appreciate your efforts. I gave up trying to cure delusion and insanity by internet after not only finding it ineffective but receiving personal threats. But if you enjoy it....feel free....

Re: Former Tax Court Judge Kroupa Indicted for Tax Evasion

Humans seem capable of rationalizing literally anything. I knew a partner in a major accounting firm that went ahead and engaged in obvious insider trading AFTER being informed that they were under SEC investigation.

Re: Nominate your island!

My wife and I go to Grand Cayman just about every December. We enjoy it very much. We are very simple to entertain, all we need is great weather, a nice beach and lots of drinks (preferably served to us on the beach) and good restaurants. K-Mon as the natives say, has all that and more. I have been ...

Third call in 3 days...they are really after me. Same thing.... it's my "final warning" before they file suit against me....call immediately....same number as the first call this time. I have filed complaints at TIGTA.

Re: First fraudulent call of the the year....

We didn't scare them enough to try another scam.... this morning's call, which was identical to yesterday's call came at 10AM. We did scare them enough to change the phone number....the new number given on today's call is 202 446 7202....which caller ID identified as a cell number.

First fraudulent call of the the year....

I got my first fraudulent IRS call of the year. The call assured me that the IRS was going to file suit against me if I didn't call them immediately and pay up. They gave a DC phone number 202-640-0414. I called it. From the accent of the person who answered on the about 20th ring I think the DC num...

For what it's worth, another vote for the no utilities, no contact with the outside world, nobody in and nobody out plan. Anybody attempting to leave gets arrested. Seeing it's all a publicity stunt anyway, deny them access to the media. I'm sure they will enjoy the winter.

Re: Did You Know That The 1040 Is An Outlaw Form?

The fact is it has nothing whatever to do with "sympathy" for them. It's about you. The last time the Tax Gap was measured (about 10 years ago) it was close to $350 billion a year. That's the difference between the taxes legally owed and the taxes paid. Do you want to collect those funds o...

Perhaps I am extraordinarily dense today but I fail to see the tax abuse here. It appears that Vanguard's horrible crime is that they aren't charging its investors more money. How terrible, they certainly should be punished.

In some respects, I am Chief Counsel history. I was one of Kevin Dolan's technical advisors. I was one of the group that reorganized Chief Counsel to get rid of Interp and L&R. Glad to hear they eventually implemented CASE. I hope it works better than most IRS software, especially considering th...

Re: Fifth Amendment Claim Ruled Not Frivolous

I was an Assistance Chief Counsel at the IRS in the late 80's. At the time they were trying to design and implement a computer system called "Case." The intent was to have a central Chief Counsel computer system where all positions and briefs and decisions could be entered classified by UI...

Re: Vehicle flipping and tax evasion

In short what we have in operation is a black market. Consider what would happen if we adopted the Fair Tax which is a 30% sales tax in lieu of income tax which at least one Presidential candidate is supporting.
