Re: Eddie Kahn on trial, again
The enormous problem with our entire court/justice system is that with enough desire it's fairly easy to run out the clock. If you cheat on taxes now...say 2020, you won't hear from anybody about it for years. And even after they find you, if you work at it you can easily stall for more years. And i...

Re: How Top Accounting Firms Write Tax Policy
Good article. But the real news is that has been going on a lot longer than the Times reports. It was going on in the 80's and before. How do I know? I personally was involved. I left a big 4 accounting firm as a manager for a turn as a SES manager at the IRS. While at the IRS I was involved with a ...

Re: 15% Global Minimum Corporate tax and tax evasion
I would not pop anyone's eyes. After everything I would do the rich would still be rich. At worst they might have delay buying their vacation chalet in the Alps for a year. All I am after is the very, very blatant stuff. The corporations that pay zero tax on huge earnings....the individuals that pay...

Re: 15% Global Minimum Corporate tax and tax evasion
I worked in the tax world for 40 years before I retired. I know all about avoidance and evasion. But I also know about perception and fairness. The law must be changed to eliminate "gyrations." It is simply not acceptable for the rich and ultra profitable businesses to pay little or no tax...

Re: IRS Files Released of Super Rich
Cutting to the chase....it's a policy issue whether the super rich are paying enough income taxes. If we, as a society, want the super rich to pay more in taxes, it would be a relatively simple matter to change the law to accomplish that result. But people are not criminals to use the law to pay the...

Re: The "Citizens' Grand Jury." (Larry Klayman)
Yes....but.... The unelected government officials you describe don't think they ought to be policymakers....what they do think is that they actually have a job to do. And further that job is to be in the public interest...because they work for the people...not some yahoo who hasn't got a clue what t...

Re: Favorite pets
I have had both cats and dogs. I have also kept fish but don't really regard them as pets. Currently, we have a rescue dog named Gracie. She is my therapy dog and at my age and condition I need quite a bit of that. Numerous studies show that people with pets live longer and I'm in favor of that. If ...

Re: ID'ing Insurrectionists
I don't know if they are tax protesters although it wouldn't surprise me in the least. What does make me uneasy though is the relatively orderly way they all filed out of the building. There were aspects that remind me of a classic military reconnaissance in force. I believe that there were some in ...

There have to be consequences for actively trying to overthrow the government and the Constitution. If there are no serious consequences, they will be back. Democracy is unable to defend itself....that job is ours.

Re: Recent academic commentary on Sovereign Citizens by Christine Sarteschi
I take no delight in "stomping" on anyone. However, sometimes...in fact too often, the sov cit types become an actual danger to others and to us all. Their inability or unwillingness to conform to society becomes dangerous to themselves and to the rest of us and must be dealt with. I wish ...

Re: David Cay Johnston on current IRS enforcement
None of this is news to anyone paying attention... The republicans have been gutting the IRS for years...since long before Trump. It's just gotten worse...much worse lately. One way to reduce the deficit would be to actually collect, or at least try to collect the income tax owed by law. The tax gap...

Re: Anyone has tried to Collect the $300,000 Income Tax Reward yet?
The basis of the nonsense spewed here is that this person believes that he personally gets to decide what the law is and how it is applied. Sorry, it doesn't work that way and never has.
Another point, the correctness of a legal argument is not determined by the number of words used.

Re: Anyone has tried to Collect the $300,000 Income Tax Reward yet?
There is really only one pertinent fact....hundreds of folks have tried to claim that they were not subject to the income tax on their income. This has been going on for over 100 years now....and no one....repeat NO ONE has won that argument in court. Game, set and match.

The truth seems to be that once committed to the stupid path they literally can't come back. By the time they are here spouting word salad, they have given up hundreds or more likely thousands of hours and most of their life to the "cause." They have lost friends and family because of thei...

Re: National Liberty Alliance - Citizen Grand Juries
Yes, I am one of the jaded ones. Some 40 years ago I was a young, eager technical advisor in the Associate Chief Counsel's office at IRS. I got assigned one day to answer/deal with some correspondence. (Remember when there were actual letters on paper.). These letters were from a guy in Texas. They ...
