Re: I'm back -- for now.

From a private message I sent earlier today, Monday, August 16: I am now probably going to have to have a blood transfusion once per week. The bone marrow cancer is really taking its toll, as are the chemo-therapy drugs. Met with my oncologist today. Tomorrow (Tuesday Aug 17) i will have a blood tra...

They're gonna cosplay some Dungeons and Dragons. "cosplay" . . . . I'm seventy years old, and I read, on a daily basis, a volume of news material in English that is probably far in excess of what most Americans read. I had never seen this term ("cosplay") until the past few days...

Re: IRS Files Released of Super Rich

Cutting to the chase....it's a policy issue whether the super rich are paying enough income taxes. If we, as a society, want the super rich to pay more in taxes, it would be a relatively simple matter to change the law to accomplish that result. But people are not criminals to use the law to pay th...

Re: IRS Files Released of Super Rich

I strongly disagree with your disparaging characterizations which verge into psychoanalyzing people. I understand that you feel this way. What you describe as my "disparaging characterizations" are indeed in some sense "verges" in "psychoanalyzing" people. However, the...

[ . . ] Let's move on from the issue of Trump's taxes and get back to the core of the thread which is whether the article is accurate in regards to whether corporations are evading or avoiding tax.[ . . . ] In fairness to Jesse Eisinger, Jeff Ernsthausen and Paul Kiel, the authors of the June 8th P...

Re: IRS Files Released of Super Rich

Ms. Macomber did not get a little bit richer. The stock dividend was, in economic substance, a pure stock split; there was no transfer of money -- or any other kind of property -- from the corporation to her. In economic substance, the corporation simply divided each of her shares into smaller unit...

Re: IRS Files Released of Super Rich

As I have noted in another place on the internet, the ProPublica article is really discussing two different kinds of tax: a wealth tax, which would really be a form of property tax, and the the Federal income tax. Regarding the income tax, the article does clearly explain the difference between real...

Re: IRS Files Released of Super Rich

That paying as little in taxes is some type of duty for rich people to do together with their accountants strikes me as a slavish and miserly mentality. What do you mean by some type of "duty"? What "duty" would that be? It appears that rich people in general (or, at least, the ...

I found this: Although never openly acknowledged by the multi-disciplinary team who authored the most popular 1980s TTAPS model, in 2011 the American Institute of Physics states that the TTAPS team (named for its participants, who had all previously worked on the phenomenon of dust storms on Mars, o...

The most important medicines I am taking now are daratumumab (also known as "Darzalex") and bortezomib (also known as "Velcade"). My understanding is that these are the ones that seem to be somewhat effective in controlling the cancer right now.

Impossible. Antivaxxers told me that immunocompromised people don’t exist so I don’t have to wear a mask or get vaccinated to protect them if I happen to run into one.
