SIOUX FALLS — A 32-year-old Winner man was sentenced Monday in federal court to 12 months and one day in prison for passing counterfeit currency in September, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Jeremy Dale Brunner’s prison sentence is to be followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, he was ordered to make restitution of $1,100.

Brunner was indicted by a federal grand jury on Sept. 26, and pleaded guilty in December for passing counterfeit Federal Reserve notes with the intent to defraud. The crime involved a Sept. 12 incident in which Brunner gave four counterfeit $100 Federal Reserve notes, each bearing the same serial number, to a cashier at the Crown Casino, Sioux Falls.

Brunner requested and received change in twenty $20 bills, according to the news release.
