Irish National Lottery

A forum for posting "You have one the lottery" letters, and for asking whether the e-mail that your received is real (it isn't). Real lotteries do NOT advise winners by e-mail, and they do NOT require the payment of any fees up-front.

The e-mail address is from Atlanta, Georgia, USA, public schools, but that doesn't really mean anything.

The address could have been hijacked or spoofed, however, you might want to refer the message to the Atlanta school's computer systems staff.

The more significant addresses are the phoen number and the 'respond to' addresses.

The real scam artist is hiding out at Yahoo, big surprise there, since yahoo, gmail, and hotmail are the main disposable email accounts that are used by this crowd.a

Isn't that the one where they throw the winning ticket into a vat at the beer factory?

So that's where Terry Southern got the idea for the chapter in which Guy Grand throws a sack full of money into...

Um... before I go on, quick show of hands.
Is there anyone here who has Not read the book/seen the movie "The Magic Christian"?
Go netflix the film if you haven't*; I'll wait.

*good luck finding the book. an independent shop might turn up a copy, but at Bounders or BarnyardIgnoble, you'll just get the stunned livestock look.

My effort to e-mail a copy to the Atlanta, GA, school system ended in a delivery failure.
So I would appreciate it if someone else, with more computer savvy, did this for me.

How odd that the Irish National Lottery pays out in GBP instead of Euros. :-) A pretty clear sign that the crook has no relationship to Ireland or the UK.

The atlanta.k12.ga.us web site's contact link goes to salford@atlanta.k12.ga.us. Is that where you wrote?

The telephone number is at least notionally UK (the IDD code for the Irish Republic is +353, but the number is a so-called personal or "platform" number which can be (and usually is) diverted anywhere in the world.

And this I received this morning (Thursday, Jan 28th). This time it actually has an oblique reference to the Atlanta schools. Notice that one of the e-mail addresses is in Hong Kong. I have changed the @ in the email addresses to (at) so that they remain more visible.
The very bad typing style (no space after the punctuation, etc.) was in the original ... and, of course, it never addressed me by name - and the Irish still seem to be using British pounds.
