John Venuti was never an IRS agent. He came to the IRS as a Tax Treaty and Technical Services specialist but never spent a single day as an agent. I was employed as an analyst when Mr. Venuti first came on board and those of us who knew him were somewhat chagrined at his hiring as he was never employed by the IRS in any way shape or form before receiving his position. All other personnel in the Tax Treaty Division came up through the ranks, as it were either as agents or estate tax specialists.

Mr Venuti achieved his position because of his father in law who knew the then Director of OIO of which Tax Treaty was a division. I realize this is splitting hairs as he certainly was employed by the IRS and should have been aware of his responsibility to file returns but by designating him as a onetime agent, this denegrates the position and that is the only thing I wish to rectify

I'm just curious. Does anyone know what Venuti's credentials were? For example, was he licensed as an attorney, CPA, or anything like that?
