Robert G. Wray, of Torrey, was arrested on a grand jury indictment that charges him with 34 counts of conspiracy to defraud, wire fraud, bankruptcy fraud and aiding and abetting.

Wray claims to be a "sovereign" citizen exempt from U.S. laws and uses various names such as Robert-George of the Wray Clan and Robert-George: Wray of the Christ Clan so he can argue he has not been properly identified in legal documents, according to the indictment filed on Sept. 18. in Philadelphia.

He allegedly helped Dennis Erik Fluck Von Kiel, a doctor of osteopathy who also goes by various names, avoid garnishment of his wages for failing to pay back student loans and avoid paying income taxes.

One of those methods included Von Kiel joining a Utah-based religious organization called the International Academy of Lymphology as a minister and signing a vow of poverty while assigning his income and assets to the organization, according to the indictment.

Robert G. Wray, besides using multiple SovCit type names, is able to con people because there is a genuine lawyer, graduated from Cornell law school and an MBA to boot, working at the Tokyo office of Skadden, Arps. The genuine lawyer Wray is a much younger man, apparently of Canadian birth.

The Utah Wray lost a lawsuit against the IRS back in 1986.

Here's the indictment:

If convicted of everything and given the maximum sentence, the Utah Wray will be in durance vile for more than 600 years. However, I am sure that with good behavior they'll cut that sentence in half.

It just occurred to me that a really good way to avoid any legal process is to change your name frequently. Oh, like every day.

You could adopt a name with a built-in algorithm, such as that the 5th letter is always the letter of the alphabet corresponding to the day of the month, so you would be Adama on the 1st of the month, but Adamb on the 2nd.

Until the government figures it out, and then you would change the algorithm, just like Google changes its algorithms.

Almost the worst name ever for a religious organization.

But still not as bad as the Church of the Almighty Phlebotomist.

Finally! A chance to make up a poem with the word "Phlebotomist"!

:D

A cranky, old-time geezer hissed:
“When thinking of the things I’ve missed,
“What isn’t first upon my list
“Is to be hugged -- or even kissed --
“By any old Phlebotomist.
“For, if you understand the gist,
“Why, just the thought of such a tryst
“Would make me want to make a fist.”
