News development, two days AFTER the BLM feds left, Bundy's cattle wandered off the govt land and caused a traffic accident.
A woman was severely injured and is now suing Bundy. Bundy's response is that this is the govt's problem, not his responsibility.

State faults Cliven Bundy in I-15 cow crash
By HENRY BREAN
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

State transportation officials are refuting rancher Cliven Bundy’s claim that they are ultimately responsible for keeping his cattle off Interstate 15 in northeastern Clark County.

In a statement Thursday, Mary Martini, district engineer for the Nevada Department of Transportation in Las Vegas, said that while the state maintains the fences along I-15 to “designate the right of way” and control access, “it is always the responsibility and liability of the owners to control their animals.”

The dispute could be headed for court.

Bundy was sued for negligence this week by a 34-year-old Las Vegas woman injured when her car hit one of the rancher’s cows on I-15 about 10 miles from his Bunkerville ranch.

The April 14 crash came two days after Bundy and his armed supporters made national news by forcing federal authorities to abruptly abandon an impound operation on public land where the rancher has been raising hundreds of cows without paying grazing fees for more than 20 years.

The collision with the cow sent Danielle Beck and her boyfriend, Matthew Zanatta, to the hospital.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol’s accident report, authorities at the scene had to herd four other cows off highway through a hole in the fence.

Beck’s lawsuit in Clark County District Court seeks at least $20,000 for medical expenses, lost income and other damages.

On Wednesday, Bundy acknowledged the cow on the highway but said he bears no responsibility for the accident. He said the state is responsible for maintaining fences along I-15, so that’s where the liability lies.

“It’s a state problem. It’s not our problem,” Bundy said.

To reach the interstate from Bundy’s 160-acre ranch along the Virgin River, his cattle must cross miles of federal land for which the rancher holds no valid grazing permits. Twice since 1998 a federal judge has ordered Bundy to remove livestock from government range or risk having them impounded.

Cliven Bundy Gets Sued, Hides Behind Skirt Of Big Government
by Gary Legum

Ho ho, Cliven Bundy, you fat sack of mooching crap! What shenanigans are you and your family of freedom-loving cutlery enthusiasts getting up to now? Applying for jobs as lecturers in African-American Studies at schools in wingnut-heavy districts? Threatening to tear off Harry Reid’s magnificent yarbles? Getting sued for letting your cattle wander onto an interstate, thereby causing a car crash that badly injured someone? Wait, that’s a new one!

It seems that back on April 14, just two days after the Bureau of Land Management backed down in its confrontation with Bundy’s army of ammosexuals and returned the rancher’s cattle to him, a woman named Danielle Beck and her boyfriend were driving on Interstate 15 in Nevada when they suddenly found all the lanes blocked by a herd of cattle. The boyfriend, Mark Zanatta, tried to swerve around the cows but hit one, killing it and sending the car into a culvert. Beck suffered a whole bunch of fractured ribs. She’s suing Bundy for $20,000 for medical damages and lost income, since the schoolteacher was unable to take a summer job like she usually does to earn some extra cash.

Bundy’s response? “Hey, I turn my cattle loose on all this land near an interstate. If there happens to be a fence with a giant hole in it, them’s the breaks,” basically.

He said it is the state’s job to maintain the fence that keeps his livestock off the interstate.

“It’s a state problem. It’s not our problem,” Bundy said. “We really feel bad when it happens. We sure don’t want it to happen. But we’re not liable.”

So Sagebrush Guy Fawkes, that rugged individualist who doesn’t recognize a level of government above the local county sheriff (to whom, you may recall, he tried to pay those grazing fees he owed because he does not believe in the existence of the federal government), now wants the state of Nevada to maintain a fence on land it does not actually own so that he may continue to let his cattle roam freely, without legal or financial consequence to himself. The conservative/libertarian model of self-reliance and small government without the power to enforce regulations of any sort continues to show itself to be one to which we should all aspire.

Just to add insult to injury, Bundy said he has the right to make a claim against Zanatta and Beck for the value of the cow they killed. Because those damn hippies should have expected to see a bunch of cattle wandering in the middle of the interstate at two in the morning and been more careful, we guess.

We look forward to Cliven Bundy’s next interpretation of the intersection of law and personal responsibility, when he will probably shoot someone multiple times and then demand the government return all the bullets to him.

This is a minor development, but no one has yet been charged in the armed standoff with BLM and other federal officials, but five men have been charged with federal misdemeanor charges for riding ATVs through protected federal land as part of some kind of non-violent post-standoff demonstration.

With reference to the Oath-Keepers, they showed up in Dec. 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri, to provide some unauthorized policing relating to the continuing demonstrations. Actually they sort of went Wild West, walking on the roofs of buildings with their assault rifles and looking like they'd gladly take anyone out. It turns out that the local police were quick to tell them they were (1) unwelcome and (2) in violation of local ordinances.

And from what I heard, took their toys away and told them to pound sand. Lots of whining and sniveling on one of the Oathkeeper sites.

On a rather distantly related note, the state of Utah is moving ahead with plans to seize federal property in the state on December 31. It will be interesting to see how the fed decides to respond.

Well, one and a half times, if you don't count the threat to secede when California was admitted to the Union as a state.

A Nevada legislator who is a defender of Cliven Bundy is sponsoring a bill that would require the federal government to get Nevada's permission to own land in Nevada. Accoording to Jon Ralston, the bill is a "direct outgrowth" of Bundy's refusal to pay federal grazing fees.

Cliven Bundy's son Ammon Bundy has therefore sent an email out to supporters urging them to go to Carson City for a March 31 hearing on the bill:
Ammon Bundy wrote:Dear Friends,

Please allow me to apologize for not sending a few of these update emails as carbon copies. In the future we will use more discretion and try to be more professional. We have proven several times that we are not professional activist. Thank you for your patients [sic?] with us as we stick together. We are making a difference.

With all of your efforts the impossible is happening. The Nevadan's Resource Rights Bill (NRR) has been given a bill number (AB408) and will go before the Resource Committee on March 31st. This is a tremendous accomplishment, one that could not have been achieved without your actions. We started out thinking that if a group of people would act together in unity we could make a real difference. So far each of you have proven this to be correct. THANK YOU!

ACTION NEEDED

Go this link to show support for the bill, https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/Opinions/78th2015/A/ select bill number AB408, select FOR, and put in your name and address. This is the official website for the Nevada Legislature and legislators use it to determine public support. If you are a citizen of Nevada it is a bonus, but it does not matter where you live, we need the support of all the States around us including those out east. Please click on the link and fill in the form to show your support for the bill.

Show up in Carson City, March 31st at 9 am. Over 15 Nevada State Legislators sponsored the NRR bill and have asked that we fill the house during the committee hearing. We must show up in person and make our presents [sic?] known. If we fill the house, the committee will pass it and the talk of the 2015 session will be the NRR bill (AB408). With enough of your physical support in Carson City the committee will pass the NRR bill and it will have a substantial chance of becoming Nevada law soon after. Plan on making the trip. I will get you more details in a few days.

Send the link to your family and friends and ask them to support as well.

As always, my honor to stand with you,

Ammon Bundy

I think Ralston needs a crash course in state civics and Nevada history, since he seems to be woefully deficient in both of them, then he needs to read a copy of the Federal legislation creating the State of Nevada. I suspect it will be beyond him, all those big words and all, but still. they seem to have elected a number of sovrunignorami to the legislature there of late.

Perhaps the Nevada legislator shuld be introduced to the Constitution -- upside his head, wrapped around a 2x4 if necessary.

Also, he might want to consider how Nevada could possibly enforce such a law -- With its Navy?

Here's the text of the bill, Assembly Bill 408:
https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/NELIS/R ... /2042/Text

It seems like an effort at nullification, one of the first steps toward secession. Considering that this is Nevada we're talking about, with legal casinos and legal brothels, I wouldn't mind them seceding.

Ralston is a reporter (journalist), not a legislator or a proponent of the bill, and in the report I linked to above he refers to the proposed legislation being "as crazy as it sounds."

The legislator behind the bill is Michele Fiore.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

I'm too busy to read the entire bill, but here's section 3, paragraph 6:
The Federal Government and officials and agents thereof shall not enforce any federal law or regulation in this State except on land acquired pursuant to subsection 1.
This is wayyyyyyyyy beyond stupid.

Well, she's certainly, ummmm... unusual.

According to one of the articles (in the Las Vegas Sun):
.....she has one problem, and it’s one she doesn’t shy away from: “I am 100 percent politically incorrect, and I say bad words,” she said.

Fiore is one of the most conservative members of the Nevada Legislature. But she has Democrat in her DNA.

At least, that’s what her mother says.

Lill Fiore is a lesbian and a Kennedy-era liberal who raised her daughter in Brooklyn around equality parades in the late 1970s. Michele Fiore, 43, described her neighborhood as a place where grocers knew her name and subways were her playground. Her uncles were New York City police officers who taught her how to fire a gun.

[ . . .]

Fiore was the only Republican to vote for lifting the gay marriage ban and legalizing medical marijuana. But she also lobbied hard for a bill to allow college students to carry concealed weapons on campus. The bill never got a committee hearing......

LPC, I didn't realize you were talking about Fiore, who is a for real and true nut job. So the rest of my comments stand. She's been involved in a number of nutty projects, and she is a Bundy backer. I was trying to remember her name at the time and couldn't, but there are also several others of at least equal nuttiness from what I've heard.
