I initially had the same reaction as "."; then, I realized that posters on a board such as this are more likely to be candid about their political and other beliefs than not. I certainly cannot talk about TG's personal or professional life/rehabilitation, but I can observe his rehabilitation regarding the tax protestor issues. So, I'm in, for whatever little its worth.

I do happen to have an in with the Governor of Ohio, who while not a federal official does have some connection to the Obama campaign and leading up to the next election I'm sure would be able to get their attention. My question is, isn't it a little soon? The recent pardons I recall seem to be for crimes committed about a decade before the pardon was granted.

My own advice would be wait at least a few years, late in the re-election cycle of President Obama is a period far enough removed from your conviction and also a period of time where favors are going to get paid back. Between now and then, maybe you should get involved in some activities that both make you look reformed and get you in view of the kind of people who can get the President of the United States owing them a favor. Might be a good time to join in as a volunteer at the local county Democratic Party (if your leanings are that way) and use those connections to do some non political volunteer work. For what you're seeking, there is a difference between helping at the Boys Club and letting someone from the county party refer you to the Boys Club. You have a few years, do some good, get a few connections, it's easier than you think... and then start the process in late 2010, when you can conceivably get maybe the local congressman to fill out one for you.

Good luck with it!

Great advice and support. Thanks.

Spoke to an attorney who handles federal pardons last pm. As with most things legal, it can be somewhat tricky if you don't know what you're doing, and this process in particular has a very steep political angle, as well as price tag, as I have come to find out.

I will probably spend the next 2 or 3 years laying some groundwork and stocking my bank account before I make any serious attempt at a pardon.

I'd also like to lose the "Tommygun" moniker if I could figure out how. I started with that because that was my nickname in the rock band I was in years ago, and it was all I could think of at the time I logged on...seems a bit childish now.

And don't forget to change your avatar. We'll come up with a new title too -- something less gunny.

I'm wondering who's his local representative? Indiana has several good ones.

Baron Hill is our rep. Pretty sensible man who thankfully trounced the Bush-ite, Mike "Drill Now" Sodrel in November. Too bad I couldn't add one more vote like a wooden stake in the heart. Dick Lugar is one of our Senators, and I've always liked him, but I forget the other one.
