Like many libertarians, Steve, you have a blind spot when it comes to law enforcement. You would probably agree with this piece by Robert Higgs: http://mises.org/story/1819

If we could just get government out of the way of the people and the ordinary operations of business, what a wonderful society we would have...
'There are two kinds of injustice: the first is found in those who do an injury, the second in those who fail to protect another from injury when they can.' (Roman. Cicero, De Off. I. vii)

'Choose loss rather than shameful gains.' (Chilon Fr. 10. Diels)

I have a hard time understanding why laws about taxes are in any respect different than laws about any other subject. If one can make a "moral" case to disregard tax laws, why is that different from a "moral" case to disregard laws about assault or child pornography, or speeding, or you name it? In each case the government, by law, requires citizens to take or not take some action and failure to do so is punishable. But somehow, there is this prevasive belief that there is something different about tax laws that makes their violation different somehow. To me that is the first step on the slope to anarchy.

Of course the "moral" argument comes with responsibility to face the penalties. If you want to rape on moral grounds, be prepared to spend a good chunck of your life in prison or knocking on doors telling people you are a sex offender.
