A) Carl possibly smokes to much you know what.

B) He's never been somewhere like China (where I've had my bag raided for anti -regime literature on arrival!)

C) Most likely is a petty thief that thinks he should get free energy.

If you want to calibrate your smart meter then simply do the math! It is not that hard for anyone with an education Carl....sorry what am I saying?
Wasn't Carl the one that had his door kicked in and a pre payment meter fitted ?? Don't know what he's so worried about, I don't think they'll be fitting a smart meter to his any time soon !!

I'm shocked at that thread. How can so many people not know what Orwellian means? English people, no less? Orwell comparisons are so-well known as to be cliche, second only to Nazi/Hitler comparisons. 1984 and Animal Farm are required reading in schools (at least in the US; are they not in England?), and cultural staples. There are many movies of them. Their ideas have entered the language: doublethink, newspeak, big brother, more equal than others. I'm baffled as to how anyone can reach adulthood without being exposed to these concepts.

Yes, truly shocking. And even Carl's usage was so far from Eric Blair that it made a mockery of the term Orwellian.

The two books were often required reading at least in the 60s -- most likely because they had a reputation of being "anti-Communist" in those days of the Cold War. I never read either book until I chose Orwell as my author when my English teacher assigned us to write a paper about an author... and then I realized that the books were more anti-Stalinist than anything else, and that Orwell was a committed "democratic socialist". I finished that assignment somewhere to the political left of where I had been when I began it.

Neither of my two children (now 30 and 25) ever were assigned the book during their school years.

It was probably required reading in most of the commonwealth and beyond, and has clearly become part of the lexicon but these are people who have never read anything before smart phones came along. These people were made for Twitter, the fake news cycle, Facebook and YouTube research. It's scary.

BTBATB at its hilarious finest, Nadine has taught Carl well. Comments not going the way he expected and Carl getting shot down in flames in a number of places, he reverts to type, closes the comments off and then removes those who disagree with his views on Smart Meters. (It does not go against the ethos of the group Carl, you just got your pissy pants on because people disagreed with you and provided valid reasons as to why they think Smart metering is a good thing.) Once the people who like smart metering are removed switch the comments back on and lets have a one sided conversation about smart meters. Trouble is more people appear from nowhere and state they like smart meters. I can see some more bans and that whole thread being quietly deleted very shortly. Classic BTBATB.
When I looked up "Ninjas" in Thesaurus.com, it said "Ninja's can't be found" Well played Ninjas, well played.

Probably. From what I can gather, they principally believe energy is free because the government should provide it.

Which is totally misleading. I only agree the auditing of energy companies should be done by the government/independent bodies, who ever wants to use it should foot the bill!

Personally, most of my mates have log burners in the house, that I actually prefer!

I'm surprised to hear that. Maybe the novels seemed less relevant in the 1990s, after communism fell. As you point out, the books weren't only about communism, but that was the obvious parallel in the 1980s and before. They're almost perfect for teenaged readers: they're easy to understand, have many clear themes to explore, contain ideas that teenagers can identify with (opposing conformity, questioning propaganda, forbidden love), and introduces them to adult societal problems.

Of all the books I read in school, those two were probably my favorites. (Though I note that I read 1984 in the year 1984, which was also time of the famous IBM commercial. This undoubtedly added to the coolness factor.)

It really is. I've heard that modern social media deprives us of shared experiences, but I didn't know the problem ran this deep. Barely five years ago, Christopher Hitchens refused to describe his North Korea trip in terms of 1984, thinking it cliche to do so. Now, people don't even know what 1984 is. That really is scary. Everyone's living in a customized reality.

Good point. It's scary that these people will scream oppression over the most innocuous things, but can't recognize these behaviors in themselves.

From what I've seen it's a typical exmaple of freeman behaviour. Freemen don't seem to like others pointing out their behaviour.

When their own limited intelligence is challenged, the defending mechanisms kick in and anyone they deem able to point out their stupidity is attacked.

Also, irony is completely lost on them. Like Carl clearly directing the comments to fit the "ethos" of beat the bailiffs!

Yes, they seem to really hate the Jews.

Not that the likes of Mark Carney (for instance) is not Jewish and a leading economist/banker!? And boy they really hate the bankers, and the Rothschild!

Personal my only gripe with the Rothschild is their wine is overpriced for one from Bordeaux!

That post has to be one of the worst. I saw it earlier and noticed that both Carl Cunningham and Chris Jones had been tagged 5 hours earlier. They should hang their heads in shame.

Anyone with half a brain would know that stopping a Debt Management Plan would ring alarm bells with creditors (and in particular, with the person's bank !!).

This is why, although the FOTL give us plenty of entertainment, we must never underestimate the damage they can cause to the ignorant and the gullible. Jakki Scott now faces penury and homelessness, thanks to the 'advice' given by BTBATB. Scumbags.

I adore this group. Hours of entertainment free of charge, can't beat it.

Their claws seem to be getting dug into a few subjects recently, one being alternate cancer treatments. They promote the magical use of cannabis oil which can cure all ailments including AIDS, HIV & Cancer. The group patriarch Carl Cunningham is big on CBD (cannabis oil). He ironically posted a guide on how to extract the THC to bottle from the magical plant, when pointed out CBD doesn't contain THC, he suddenly went silent.

Unfortunately today someone by the name of Kelly Logan who had stage 2 cancer passed away while refusing "normal treatment" and instead going with eating 20 lbs of greens, CBD and almond pips (never heard of the last one). She was an interview with this morning (british daytime telly) saying she was trying it this way because she wanted to stay healthy for her kids. She refused doctors advise and chemo.

They are now parading her around as a warrior and a fighter. While I'm open to new ideas, these ideas need to have substance, evidence and proof. Why do people flock to idiots rather than doctors or professionals? The mind boggles.
