Lawful Rebellion on Radio 4

Post by MaritalArtist »

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09qhsc4
Across Britain, thousands of people have stopped paying council tax, water rates and speeding fines. They think they have the law on their side, thanks to the 1215 Magna Carta treaty between King John and the Barons. They argue that the present Queen has breached her obligations under the treaty and so has in effect deposed herself and even become a traitor. As a result, all laws passed by parliament are invalid, the courts are shams, and government officials are imposters. Instead, they swear an oath of allegiance to a group of members of the House of Lords.

The rebels meet in a Facebook group with 13,000 members. In truth, few people join the group because of an interest in constitutional history - most arrive there because they are in a desperate financial or legal situation, feel that the system is stacked against them, and are looking for a way out. The group offers a system to deal with the authorities that - if used effectively - will supposedly get them off your back.

For nearly a year, Jolyon Jenkins followed the group's members, even signing an oath himself. But does the system work? Over the months, members of the group become increasingly frustrated at the authorities' refusal to take their arguments seriously. The frustration eventually leads to a secret plan to seize a crown building, as they believe Magna Carta entitles them to.

Presenter/Producer: Jolyon Jenkins.

Many thanks! I was wondering just the other day if anything ever came of PLD's involvement with the BBC.

Based on Joylon's other work, I don't expect him to put PLD on a pedestal. Which means the reactions will be fun.

They should have known that any one called Jolyon was not their friend.

Good time for rebranding the rebels, although I doubt if the lawful rebel and the Radio 4 listener demographics overlap much.

I think one of their number might have hit the nail right on the head...
Connor Jason Wilkinson

I thought it would be like that. Is it just me or does it seem like it's aimed to make it seem as if its only about people not wanting to pay tax and makes the group sound like a bunch of morons?
The fact it is a bunch of morons trying to avoid paying taxes means that's not so much a Sherlock Holmesian deduction as a foregone conclusion.

Splendid - I'll pull a copy down from BBC iPlayer, for anyone who can't listen to the scheduled broadcast.

So far so good. JJ keeps doing ‘fact checks’ at regular intervals debunking their shit.

The FB Page has a few unhappy commentators !

I saw references to that somewhere among his complaints about not receiving enough hand-outs, some comment about how he's been "educating" his fellow inmates.

Best bit was when he asked David Robinson if he was withholding his council tax, to which he replied "I don't actually pay council tax, I'm on disability benefit" :haha: :haha:
I don't take sides, I read all the facts and then come to my own conclusions

I sincerely hope Louis Theroux does a number on them too.

For our non-British friends, Louis is an excellent journalist with an extreme knack of humiliating the unsuspecting but delivering his arguments and out downs with impeccable timing!

I’m really looking forward to listening to JJ’s rebel round up also however, I just feel a television serious would be somewhat a more fantastic failure spectacle!

Uh oh! David’s already threating to hang JJ!

I’m sure he’s shitting it Dave & Conor. Back to your mothers houses boys!

“Well its not as though he is unaware of the facts so he has no excuse....people like him should meet the hangman for their treachery.....I never liked the bloke and neither did mostof us that he interviewed”

The fact that they didn't foresee the outcome of participation in the programme shows their complete lack of self-awareness. The BBC is effectively the state broadcaster in the UK... What were they expecting?

To be hailed as the next Alfred the Great?

In fact I don’t think the PLD guys have ever actually shown what the end game is other than- “Give me back my ‘entitlements’”.

The end game seems to be that the country will be governed by a committee of barons or, in the absence of real barons, by a self appointed committee of baronial substitutes because something, something, something.

The fact that the vast majority of British people would much rather stick with a parliamentary democracy has either never occurred to them or they simply don't care.

The fall out continues

Crabbie
Seems like Jolyon Jenkins has left the group, he may be going to look for his oath he left on the train.
Robbo
.maybe we should track him down and sieze his house or something...arrest the traitor..i'd be up for it.
Manston
Perhaps he should now come back here to defend himself and his stance.
Robbo
There is plenty of proof showing that the regime has backed off when I've used Article 61
