Shkreli, CEO Reviled for Drug Price Gouging, Arrested on Securities Fraud Charges

Postby Jeffrey » Thu Dec 17, 2015 10:41 pm

Federal prosecutors accuse Shkreli of engaging in a complicated shell game after a hedge fund he started lost millions. He is alleged to have made secret payoffs and set up sham consulting arrangements. A New York lawyer, Evan Greebel, also arrested early Thursday, is accused of conspiring with him.

Retrophin's board itself later ousted Shkreli, and in August sued him for $65 million, claiming he had looted the company to enrich himself and to pay off investors, whom he had allegedly defrauded, in a hedge fund he had run previously. Retrophin also disclosed it had received subpoenas from federal prosecutors in Brooklyn, a clear sign that authorities were interested in possible criminal conduct at the company.

Another Ex-Hedge Fund Manager up to no good. It is guys like this that bring bad publicity to the Hedge Fund sector. One thing that is clear, is that any Hedge Fund who does not have an independent administrator maintaining the books, and providing independent valuation investor monthly statements, is not something to invest in. Too much room for fun and games.

To quote a radio commercial for a product I decline to mention, a hedging tool is not just from trimming the lawn, although possibly such tools should be used on hedge fund managers.

This guy is going to face a judge and jury that already know about his price-gauging on a life-saving drug. He's facing StarTrek time even if he's charged with only an overdue library book.
