News blackout

Post by alohabunny »

Howzit Quatloosians,

The Big island mo betta, and Kona is even mo betta....Judge, Hilo been raining up to 18 inches in one day, flooding too. Kona is growin pleny (McDonalds just got completely re-built), back in the day there was not even one traffic light, now there is one on every corner of Kailua-Kona, Wal-mart, Kmart, Lowes, Costco, Home Depot...bummers.

Hand is up Captain....Ala Moana is a must when I am on Oahu....a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. The tee-vee programs come and go, the movies too....nothing much since Water World. We miss Hilo Hattie, we don't miss Don Ho, we miss Brudda Iz, and Rap. P.S. they don't make Primo beer anymore, here in Kona we have Kona Brewery.

Primo Beer

Post by alohabunny »

Aloha 'oe,

Primo beer was the only local beer for many years. I have not seen it in the markets again yet here on the Big island. But I think they should bring it back just for nostalgic value, it wasn't very good if memory serves. So good Captain.

Bunny, my alterego, is actually a male brabbit, I noticed you have a cat with a most interesting helmet Demosthenes, a brabbit is a cross between a cat and a rabbit, mostly cat but he hops around and he is sort of fuzzy like a rabbit....strange, rare and unusual.....I however am female, but I still like beer, but only imported, I will try to keep an open mind and try the new Primo when I see it again.

I asked my mother about the slang. She said she was aware of it growing up but her parents never allowed it in the house so it never stuck with her.

News Blackout in Hawaii

Post by alohabunny »

Howzit...

grixit, pidgin English is pretty universal here in Hawaii, anyone who has been here any length of time picks it up, and it is a sure sign that you have been hangin with the locals. The schools discourage the children from speaking it, but it is so common that the kids know it and use it away from school. Most here are proud to know it because it says you're a "local", so no shame to speak da kine, bra.

And as for you Captain, next time you're in Kona let me know and I'll buy you a shave ice, maybe rainbow flavor, or a Primo if you prefer....

Aloha Quatloosians,
I read that the Bennett case has again gone to trial, starting the last week in March, but there seems to be no information and I presume the trial is over. Is there any "inside" information available on the outcome? I am still wondering...........mahalo for any "news"

According to PACER, the trial will resume today *4/18), it's eighth day. The defendant took the stand in his own defense, and they're still on direct examination.

Aloha LPC,

Thank you for the update, I can find nothing locally and do not have access to Pacer. I do not even know if there will be any "news" about the outcome when it is all over. If it were not for the sharp Quatloosians, there would be no information about this so a big mahalo to you.

Pacer isn't a private system. Get registered and you can get the blow-by-blow as it happens. It's pretty easy to use... I mean it must be, if lawyers can use it.

Sorry - I had to. Seriously - the law profession (like real estate) is generally clueless on technology (based on my experience - YMMV).

Buck,
That's a good one..........I will try that, I thought Pacer was exclusive to "subscription" holders, but if all I have to do is register, then why not........mahalo plenty, Shannon

It costs nothing to register for PACER, and:

1. Docket searches (to check on the status of a trial) generally cost nothing. (For some reason, appellate courts will provide the most recent docket entries for free, but will charge for the entire docket; don't know why.)

2. Opinions disposing of cases (i.e., the "final" opinions) are supposed to be free, but there seems to be some sloppiness or uneveness is applying this rule.

3. Everything else costs $.08 per page. So if you want to look at a 40 page pleading, it will cost you $3.20. They don't ask for a credit card, but bill you monthly.

PACER caps its fee at $2.40 (30 pp) for any one document. Having downloaded a couple that topped 300 pages, I'm grateful.

I think if your annual pacer bill is $10.00 or less, they waive the fee. They also do not request a payment on the bill until it hits $10.00.

However, it can add up quickly. I spend roughly $100 every quarter. It wouldn't cost much if only used occasionally to review cases. Some of us are addicted to information.
