From the Greensboro News:

Ex-Guilford teacher guilty of tax evasion
RALEIGH - A jury found a former Northeast Guilford High teacher guilty on all seven counts of attempting to evade state income taxes, according to the N.C. Department of Revenue.

Gloria Tatum-Wade, 62, of 3707 Bethany Trace in Greensboro was found guilty Feb. 14 of attempting to evade or defeat the state's individual income tax, the revenue department said in a news release.

Wake County Superior Court Judge Michael J. O'Foghludha sentenced Tatum-Wade to two consecutive prison terms of six-month minimum and eight-month maximum.

O'Foghludha suspended the sentence and placed her on 16 months of probation. Tatum-Wade also was ordered to pay taxes for 2004 and 2005, pay restitution of $8,754, and pay a $1,500 fine.

Before trial, Tatum-Wade filed her 2006 through 2010 individual income tax returns with the Department of Revenue. According to evidence presented in court, Tatum-Wade kept on record with Guilford County Schools a fraudulent tax form that claimed exemption from the state's income tax from 2004 to 2010, the revenue department said.

Tatum-Wade also filed a claim with Guilford County saying she was a sovereign citizen and exempt from taxes. Tatum-Wade, who had worked with Guilford County Schools since 2003, resigned on Sept. 18.
