Yes, it does make sense in theory. On many modern diesel engines the injection timing is significantly retarded from optimum in order to keep NOx emissions within legal limits; if the pill does as artessa claims, there is the chance to advance the timing a bit and so gain some fuel economy benefit.

This is of course absolutely no benefit to the typical car/light truck owner, since the injection timing is fixed by the settings in the engine management computer and cannot be altered - hence, no economy improvement.

Still nothing? Popped up some rumours that Lang is out of FFI, anyone else heard anything about this?

One patent application. For a "selective etching device"? What's that?
The present invention provides an apparatus for producing finished sliders, the apparatus including a physical and chemical etching device, and a controller to direct the chemical and physical etching device onto a substrate consisting of a plurality of materials. The physical and chemical etch device provides a uniform etch rate throughout the plurality of materials in the substrate while also providing a desired property level of each of the plurality of materials.
Ah. Sounds like it has a lot to do with internal combustion engines.

You guys are a joke. BTW, where's that Millbrook report you promised to provide as soon as it came out? Found your stuff useless, didn't it?

Not a hint of any experience with internal combustion engines, I notice, or indeed any kind of combustion device. Jerry Lang's expertise wasn't quite in the right field, but at least he was close.

By the way, where does this info come from? FFi's list of executives and directors (http://www.myffi.biz/t-CorpExecDir.aspx) still lists Jerry Lang, and a Google search for ' FFI "Jane Gates" ' turns up virtually nothing.

A couple observations about Jane Gates, FFI's new chief scientist. Not as important as her utter lack of any experience with or qualifications in internal combustion engines, but interesting nonetheless.

First of all, she's an FFI distributor. No shock there. "Here, boys, take some of these in lieu of pay." Governor Lepetomane, Blazing Saddles. Her email (which I won't post here for harvesting by spambots, but which is linked to her name on the above page) shows that she is/was a Prepaid Legal distributor as well.

Hey, what's more important for an MLM technical position - qualifications in the field or MLM experience? FFI seems to know.

True. But, a bit of creative Googling gives some answers. 'Jane Gates Seagate' gives you her profile at Linkedin; http://www.linkedin.com/in/janegates.

Her current employer is actually nor FFI, but rather something called Innovative Fuel Technologies, where she is Director of Testing and Implementation.

Their homepage; http://info.ifueltech.com/en/Home.aspx, claims to sell a cure against valve recession. Their blurb is quite similar to statements made about FFI/MPG.
ifueltech wrote:IFT-Liquid is not a Fuel Additive and does not alter or modify the fuel in any way and will not harm the engine. IFT-Liquid is an engine conditioner. Continued use of the product will maintain the coating that serves as a catalyst, raising engine efficiency and gas mileage. IFT-Liquid will not harm car, truck, or boat engines. This technology has been in use for over 30 years in all types of motors and vehicles. The IFT-Liquid formula is the result of the continuation of proven space age technology at its best. IFT provides your company with significant fuel savings as well as the satisfaction that comes from reducing harmful emissions.
- 100% Organic Reduces harmful emissions
- 75% or higher Improved fuel economy
- 7-14% Improves octane rating
- Effectively tested
The pages refer to tests done; http://info.ifueltech.com/en/gasoline-more.aspx, but I can't see that these test are done under controlled conditions, or by a independent facility. One familiar detail; "All these cars were older with carbureted engines and using leaded gasoline so the IFT-Liquid’s effectiveness is strong enough to overcome even the inefficient combustion of these large old cars (baseline MPG was 11). "

http://info.ifueltech.com/en/gasoline-more.aspx

As to how it works, this is the short explanation:
The high temperature in the cylinder of an engine combined with the small amount of material that will oxidize or carbon out produces a very thin layer very rapidly. This film coats the walls of the cylinder, the piston face, and the fire deck. Once this film is deposited, it provides several benefits
I'll leave it to fuelsaving to comment on the validity of this.

So who is behind IFT? Well, the executives are Randy Ray & Wendy Lewis. Hmmmm, I know them... And their 'Combustion Specialist' is Jane G...eh, no, wait. It's not Jane. It's Jerry Lang. Ummmm, what is going on here?

The old MLM shell game.

From FFI's site:
Forever Freedom International, LLC
650 Douglas Ave Suite 1040
Altamonte Springs, FL 32714
Phone: (407) 682-0060
Note the "Forever Freedom" instead of "Fuel Freedom".

From the Innovative Fuel Technologies site:
Innovative Fuel Technologies, LLC
650 Douglas Ave Suite 1040
Altamonte Springs, FL 32714
So many scams, so few addresses. Nice find, Thule.

I agree. Some of the text is actually lifted word for word from FFI-pages, such as this familiar statement:

"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has been requiring the removal of lead from gasoline since 1973..."

Of course, this only makes the whole scheme even more fishy. If MPG is a legitimate product, why have Wendy&Ray prepared a second company?

Nobody else can say for sure, of course, but I suggest that it's the "change the name to protect the guilty" routine. A google of "ffi" and "mpg-cap" hits Tony's (fuelsaving's) page on them first, and a Rip-Off Report page second. A google of "ffi" and "jerry lang" turns up two of Jerry's YouTube videos, then Tony's page second, and this thread fifth.

I don't think that's the kind of publicity they look for. The direct answer to your question, of course, is that they don't have a legitimate product.

I think it's been too long since the FTC or a state AG shut down a mileage-booster ripoff. The more time goes by between enforcement actions, the more claims like this appear:
MPG-CAPS™ creates a catalytic micro-coating on the combustion chamber surfaces; resulting in improved combustion efficiency—improving gas mileage and lowering harmful exhaust emissions
...
The gas savers contain 100% active ingredients that ensure 100% combustion efficiency [Turn your car's engine into a perpetual motion machine! - WS]
...
In a nut shell MPG-Caps is a revolutionary gas saver that simultaneously improves fuel economy and gas mileage
And, of course, no MLM commercial would be complete without the following:
People are making thousands of dollars a week working with Fuel Freedom International.
Thousands a week? What "people"?
Do a simple search online for it, and you will see it all over the web

And now Gates as well has disappeared from FFI. In fact, their list doesn't contain anyone who even pretends to have technical experience. All R&D positions are missing.

I guess their attitude is, "Well, we know the stuff doesn't work. After all, Millbrook said so. Why should we pay anyone to do anything but market?"
