In need of your legal services....

Talk about the Nigerian 4-1-9 scam in all its many variations, such as bogus checks sent from Nigeria to purchase used cars in the U.S. and many other variations of this scam.

In need of your legal services....

Post by Arthur Rubin »

Would you believe:
Dear Counsel,

My name is Clara Jong. I am a contacting your firm in regards to a divorce settlement with my ex husband who resides and does his businesses in your jurisdiction. We had an out of court agreement for him to pay $550,450.00 plus legal fees; he has only paid me $44,000 since. I am hereby seeking your firm to represent me in collecting the balance from him, though he has agreed already to pay me the balance but it is my belief that a Law firm like yours is needed to help me collect payment from my ex-husband or litigate this matter if he fails to pay as promised.
Thank you for your consideration, while I wait your reply in good faith.
I did just post on misc.legal.moderated lately, but really.

Ummm, I don't see how this is a Nigerian (or other form of) scam. It may be a time-waster but it looks for a moment as if you are not being asked for money or anything tangible.

Want to bet? Think the marriage license will have to be ordered from Nigeria?

Somehow I have a feeling that with $12M at stake, this guy would have at least known my name and my gender, and my nationality.

And why, when funds can be readily and easily moved by wire in this day and age do they think this scam is viable? I really love the old 12 !/2 million dollars in trunks routine, like they have any idea how many trunks that would even take.. No points at all for originality.
