Rules? What Rules?

Post by wserra »

I just received a thoughtful PM from a new poster as to the rules of the site, prompted by my hortatory post in the Scam.com thread as to avoiding certain conduct. As you can see, I've been here for a while. Quatloos, in my experience, prides itself on not having specific written rules of conduct. As best as I can figure it out, the following is the sense of the community.

1. Don't post personal info that the subject has not made public him/herself. If someone has thrown a website up with an address, for example, s/he has decided to make that information public. Addresses, DOBs, phone numbers, and so forth are "personal information"; criminal records, judgments, bankruptcies, tax liens and so forth are not. Use good judgment.

2. In my post on the thread, I was referring to "Yo' Mama" type posts. Feel free to disagree. There is no ban on judicious use of profanity - but that's "judicious", goddammit. If the only content of a post is to call another poster a name, don't. Do not post just to bash someone, especially for conduct on another forum.

3. No commercials. Ever, in any form.

4. Please contribute, especially other vets of the board. Do we have any other rules? Questions are also welcome.

Don't use Quatloos to promote activities which go against the grain of most civilized societies such as child pornography or 'man-boy love' It's not our business what you do in your own privacy, but don't talk about it here.

Don't post the exact same thing in every thread you can access or post totally irrelevant material in a thread.

I don't know if this should rise to the level of a rule, but I would say: don't waste our time. Don't rehash points which you or others have rehashed, ad nauseam, many times before; and when you are asked to back up your assertions, don't try to back them up with word salad or citations which have no demonstrable connection with your remise.

Unfortunately, here -- just as in all the flavors of courts -- reality-challenged individuals continue to raise issues which have been shot down, crashed in flames, and been sanctioned mant times in the past.

There is nothng wrong with a newbie re-raising a historically pathetic issue here,

That just presents an opportunity to gently explain the flaws in such a position.

However, when a relatively new guest attempts to brint up one failing point after another, they have demoted themselves to the status of troll of the day and thereby consigned themself to the treatment which is accorded.

Use cut-and-paste responsibly. Source attributions and links are safer in terms of copyright infringement than simply regurgitating other site content.

I recognize this is a double-edged sword; some sites auto-prune and content can be lost over time, therefore it can be useful to have it become part of the Quatloos record.

I hate rules. But I added the following to Rule 2, above: "Do not post just to bash someone, especially for conduct on another forum." I make this post to amplify.

It is perfectly appropriate to point to conduct on another board which amounts to a scam. This particular forum is filled with quotes from MLM distributors advertising their oil of snake in ridiculous ways. That's fine, including appending your own comments bashing such behavior. I'm aware that certain things are going on at scam.com, and that people are understandably upset at those things. But this forum isn't about what is going on at scam.com unless those goings-on amount to scams.

Let me illustrate. I think that it is relevant here that one of the folks in charge at a purported anti-scam board participated in one of the biggest scams of the generation - and actually still writes approvingly of its "products", which advocated criminal conduct. I think it worth rebutting the comments of another of those in charge at scam.com when he defended that behavior here - obviously, since I did so. But this forum can't turn into a series of "did-you-see-what-happened-now" posts, unless "what happened" was itself a scam.

Will anyone get banned for this? Hell, no. But, if you look down, you'll see a forum called "Flame Wars". Threads there auto-prune after five days of inactivity. Your posts may get moved.

We welcome new posters here, and would like to see them stay and contribute.

I suppose then we can beat it until it stops changing color, but god help the person who lays one finger on it after it's last change.

@wserra. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I'm a total newbie here and even after 3 years at Scam.Com, still consider myself a newbie in all things Pro & Anti MLM.

I'd like to contribute more here than I did at Scam.Com.

There were many times I wanted to 'post' at Scam.Com, but I don't have the intelligence level.

If I say something wrong here on Quantloos, I hope that members here can help guide and correct my error.

Thanks Again

It's Quatloos, but I think that we generally give even the scammers a chance to explain themselves. I'm sure any misstatements you make will be minor.

It's the residue left on the meat tenderizer after you've used it to torture an intern to death. If you're good, you may eventually be allowed to have an intern. But, if you've got to buy the tenderizer, attempts at reimbursement will be met with suitable punishment. So, do try to get reimbursed for it. I quite enjoy watching people squirm as a hamster gives them a lap-dance.

Good times.

Residue left on the meat tenderizer is one possibility, Mike, but do a simple search on Google to find out - like Wikipedia ie.
The term "quatloos" appears in one episode of Star Trek; it was the name of currency used for betting in the episode "The Gamesters of Triskelion". It was chosen for the site because it has come to be associated with "fictional currency", appropriate for a site that fights fraudulent money scams.
See, things work a little different here than that other site, Mike. Here you report on scams. You do your own research or report on how you got hosed on some deal instead of asking if something is a scam.

I think too the regulars would appreciate further off topic questions be posted in the "New Management at Scam.com" thread in the Flame Wars and other idiotic Urinary Contests section of the forum.

Strictly FYI.

Thank you, Doc. That's definitely correct. The MLM Scams Forum (as if any of them aren't) is for MLM scams (as if any of them aren't). Feel free to start a discussion here about any MLM you want, preferably but not necessarily with something original you can contribute. I'm simply going to move to the thread Doc names without further comment any future posts relating to just the personalities at scam.com.

Nope never an intern, but I'm still young.
