Re: Deductions
You know your mother would be proud if:
You attempt to take a medical deduction for hookers in the amount of $65k.
You also attempt the same with pornography in the amount of over $2k.
You crawl into debt to pay for the above items and try to deduct the $5k it cost you to do so.
This lasts several years, although the expense is less after the first year.

Re: Deductions
I don't know which would be worse -- getting nailed in court for pulling something like this, or having my idiotic attempts to deduct from my tax bill for stuff like this plastered all over the Internet and the other news media. This guy ought to see if he can get a job as a deep-woods forest ranger or a lighthouse keeper....

The guy must have some serious mental health issues to take the issue of the deductibility of prostitute fees to court.

Re: Deductions
You would think that a tax lawyer would know without even having to do research that these expenditures have to be capitalized, and can only be amortized if you make a timely election. What are they teaching in the LLM programs these days?

I just checked, and QuickBooks has no pre-set account for "pussy."Paul wrote:You would think that a tax lawyer would know without even having to do research that these expenditures have to be capitalized, and can only be amortized if you make a timely election.
So this may be a common tax and accounting oversight.

No, you're just not using the Executive and Political Appointees version.LPC wrote:I just checked, and QuickBooks has no pre-set account for "pussy."

Re: Deductions
Having just gone through an LLM program, I assure you it is all top notch tax education. (at least my institution) However, LLM programs are not really covering personal income tax in much detail. So, for instance, the head of the program stated to program participants that LLM tuition and fees were deductible. But that is not the case in the broad sense - only in very limited circumstances. Fortunately, I qualified, but most of the program participants did not. So, it wouldn't surprise me that an LLM would not properly deduct a personal expense.Paul wrote:You would think that a tax lawyer would know without even having to do research that these expenditures have to be capitalized, and can only be amortized if you make a timely election. That said, its inconceivable that an LLM would think that prostitution fees would be deductible. My guess is that this person suffers from some mental issues that are clouding his judgment.

You think a 78 year old guy publicizing his extensive use of hookers and porno isn't bragging?

Re: Deductions
A great tax lawyer, for whom I worked when I was fresh out of law school, once said, "The IRS says a tax return is suposed to be an honest and good faith effort to comply with the law. Some of us say it's just an opening bid."Maybe he was working under the assumption of "It's a deduction until the IRS says otherwise."
